About The Land Consultancy Ltd.
Welcome to The Land Consultancy Limited, providing expert geo-environmental consultancy and site investigation services. Established in 2003, we undertake contaminated land (environmental) and geotechnical investigations, wind farm investigations, ground gas, quarry resource and shallow mining surveys.
We are highly qualified with over 15 years of relevant experience, and provide a nationwide service from our offices just outside Preston. Our clients include developers, renewable energy companies, structural engineers, architects, local authorities, insurance companies and other consultants.
Works commonly undertaken include:
Contaminated Land Investigations
Geotechnical Investigations
Other Works
Desk Studies
Desk studies are an essential first phase of any site investigation.
Environmental database, historical and geological map information are obtained and reviewed. A site walkover survey and general internet searches are undertaken. The information is used to build up a preliminary conceptual site model (CSM) for the site.
Environmental
The Land Consultancy Limited provide environmental consultants and site investigation services to undertake contaminated land and ground gas investigations on both brownfield and greenfield sites.
Geotechnical
Geotechnical investigations are often undertaken simultaneously with Phase 2 contaminated land investigations and similar investigation techniques are generally employed.
Ground Gas
Gas and groundwater level monitoring surveys are often undertaken as part of the Phase 2 contaminated land site investigation works where the Phase 1 desk study has identified a potential gas risk to a property.
Wind Farm Investigations
The Land Consultancy Limited has successfully completed 13no. wind turbine site investigations on behalf of RWE Npower Renewables Limited.
Mining Investigations
The Land Consultancy Limited has recently completed shallow mining site investigations in Newcastle, Burnley, Bolton, Wigan, Stoke-on-Trent and Birmingham.
Soakaway testing
Soakaway testing helps determine whether ground conditions are amenable to the use of soakaways and informs on their design.
Plate Load and DCP Testing
Plate load testing and DCP testing for road pavement design purposes has recently been undertaken on a wind farm site located near to Glasgow. 4no. plate load tests were required to be undertaken on the surface of an existing track and 8no. The reaction load for the plate load tests was provided by a 20tonne tracked excavator. DCP tests were undertaken to 1.00m depth. Shallow trial pits were excavated adjacent to the DCP position to determine the nature of the soil strata tested.
The plate load testing and DCP equipment is owned by The Land Consultancy Ltd and therefore our rates are extremely competitive.
The results obtained were used to calculate equivalent CBR values and these were presented in a short report to the client the next day.
TRL & DCP
The TRL (Transport Research Laboratory) Dynamic Cone Penetrometer is an instrument designed for the rapid in-situ measurement of the structural properties of proposed track and roadways, and existing road pavements constructed with unbound materials. Continuous measurements are made down to a depth of around 0.90m which are converted into CBR values and if required Layer Stiffness Modulas.
