Welcome to Solar Energy Systems
Solar Energy Systems primary expertise lies with solar water heating. Solar water heating is the name given to the process where we use the power of the sun to heat up your hot water. This will naturally reduce the heating bill of your home and your dependency on gas/electricity.
The company was formed in the early 80s by a member of the Scottish Solar Energy group committee - Jim Norris. It is a small business based in Fife, Scotland and with it's first solar water heating installation in 1981 - making a successful life span of over 25 years - we must be doing something right.
What solar heating services do we offer?
Solar Energy Systems offer a bespoke solar water heating installation to any property.
The installations could range from heating the hot water for your domestic home through to heating a swimming pool.
We now also install Solar Slate air heating systems. This is an innovative way of using solar energy in a practical and cost-effective way to help make houses warmer, drier and fresher.
In conjunction with an Energy Savings Trust grant, you can save up to 30% off the cost of your solar heating installation.

Why use Solar?
The sun is an inexhaustible, secure and free source of energy. It delivers sunshine in such quantities that it could meet the entire world's demand for energy many times over. As much solar energy falls on the earth in one hour as the world consumes in the course of a whole year. Even in cloudy northern countries there is more than enough solar energy to meet the demand - the total falling on the UK over a year, for example exceeds over one hundred times the country's current annual requirement for delivered energy.
In today’s climate we are in a world that is very aware of our energy usage and carbon footprint. This is also reinforced with the fact that we are also seeing unprecedented and unpredictable costs of fuel. (oil/gas/electricity)
Utilising modern technology, solar is a clean source of energy that we can use and adapt to work alongside other forms of heating.
How does Solar Water Heating work?
The solar system consists of a solar water panel and a method of storing the generated heat typically a water tank either existing or new. The panel will be sized according to the amount of storage available.
A new 'circuit' containing the solar panel is created and connected into to your existing hot water storage system. When the panel is 6oC above the temperature inside the water storage tank the circulation pump will start pumping. The fluid in this circuit is usually anti-freeze (to stop freezing and other associated issues with winter). The fluid will travel up to the panel and the sun will heat it up as it moves through the panel. The heated fluid then flows back to the water storage tank. This process then repeats heating the water storage tank.
We use solar panels that are at the forefront of modern solar technology. Now you don't need direct sunlight. Our systems work by not only using the direct sunlight for heat transfer - but by also using the UV rays from the sun, so it even works on bright overcast days too.
During winter months when the solar is not as efficient compared to the summer, the conventional heating will be required to produce hot water. However the solar will complement the conventional heating further reducing winter fuel bills.
