About Lightning Protection Services (LPS)
For all of your lightning protection and access requirements, we are here to help.
Why Lightning Protection?
Lightning strikes the ground throughout the world 100 times every second. It is known as one of nature's most destructive elements... A single bolt can carry up to one billion volts of energy and can reach temperatures of 28,000'c. As a result of changing weather patterns, lightning strikes in the UK are increasing year on year.
A lightning protection system is designed to give the energy from a lightning flash a safe path to earth
Why Lightning Protection Services?
Your safety and the efficiency of your business depends on the safety measures you undertake. Whether it is a domestic, commercial or historic building we can help to protect your building. We can complete a lightning risk assessment, advice, design, install, test and certify to the British standard; BSEN 62305/ International standard; IEC 62305 or ESE standard NFC-17-102.
Do not let a lightning strike affect you.
Contact us to find out if we can assist you with any aspect of lightning protection. From completing a risk assessment, design, installation or maintenance of a lightning protection system. Providing you with peace of mind, a safer environment and better protection during the next thunder storm
Lightning Protection - Advice
LPS has a management team with a good mix of experience and fresh up to date technology; designing, installing and maintaining lightning conductor systems.
We pride ourselves on providing as non-intrusive but efficient systems as reasonably practical. Recommending and designing the best type of Lightning Protection system to suit the building whilst complying with the current standard.
Lightning Protection Services can test and certify safety lines and roof anchors to the relevant standards, including pull testing, certification and retagging. We can also supply and install both temporary and permanent safety lines and anchors.
Lightning Protection - Design & Installation
Design
LPS accredited design engineers will design your Lightning Protection System to the correct class as revealed by the risk assessment and the information gained from the site survey or working closely with your architects. We can design a system that works for you and your business.
All of our designs fully comply with the relevant standards:
- BS EN 62305 2013(LP)
- NFC-17-102(ESE)
- BS EN 61643(Surge)
- BS 7430(Earthing)
- BSEN 50164 (Components)
Installation
All LPS engineers are directly employed, fully trained, experienced, and CITB/CSCS certified lightning conductor engineers.
A lightning protection system has to be properly installed so that in the event of a lightning strike, it can perform as required to protect your building.
Lightning Protection - Maintenance & Testing
Maintenance & Repair
For a lightning protection system to function as designed in the event of a lightning strike, it is essential that the lightning conductor system is maintained and kept in good order.
Lightning Protection Services can be called to carry out one off repairs, eg. Storm damage, vandalism or full upgrades to BS EN 62305.
Lightning Protection - Surge Protection
BSEN 62305 Status
Electronic system protection was included as a requirement of lightning systems in 2008 with the introduction of BS EN 62305. The standard now combines the external lightning protection system with the buildings internal components. It is now recognised that the electromagnetic effects of lightning related activity can cause heavy damage to electric/electronic systems & equipment resulting business downtime.
Surge Protection Devices (SPD’s) are now required under BS EN 62305. They form the internal lightning protection system by preventing lightning currents from entering a building via incoming services and reduces the risk of damage to electrical and electronic equipment and critical systems from transient electronic surges.
LPS can offer advice, supply only or supply and installation of a full range of surge protection devices.
Earthing and Grounding
All earthing systems are compliant to BS EN 62305 & BS 7430.
Lightning Protection Services has designed and installed a diverse range of earthing projects such as;
- Substations
- Generators
- Static Earth Systems
- Wind Turbines
- Communication Masts
Please contact us if you would like further information or have a project that you would like to discuss with us.
